This one isn't really that difficult, is it? Wink

Patriotism involves love of and sacrifice for one's country (i.e. a large group of people) rather than the individual (self).
Patriotism goes beyond individual interests.

Transcend= go beyond the limits of something.

So the quote means hat every self(ever person) has to go far beyond himself/ herself if he is a true patriotic.
