This is a word meaning particular sums of money for a certain journey. If you go for an interview, sometimes your future employer will pay you what you spent on travel and this would be called travel expenses. The word cost is a general word for what you have to pay.

I've found this explanation of yours quite helpful. To understand perfectly I'd like to ask again whether "cost" is used generally whenever one happens to have to pay something: for the kids or their school education, to have a special outfit for a wedding celebration, to buy a car and so on? To sum up whenever it will come to "cost of living"?

Yes, cost is the price you pay in order to obtain something.

Idea
I find the expenses of travel is too high.
I think this sentence is wrong because there's 2 verbs:
find and be
Am I wrong if not why?
