Dear teachers,

Please choose the correct sentences:

1.She said, "How friendly his brother and his sister are!"
2."How friendly his brother and his sister are!" she said.
3."How friendly his brother," she said, "and his sister are!"
4. She said, "How old are your brother and your sister?"
5. "How old are your brother and your sister?" she said.
6."How old are your brother," she said, "and your sister?"

I think all are correct. Is it right?
Best regards

Hi Pamela,

I think we need to substitute your either with also or too or leave it out altogether.

You needn't write his or your twice in the sentence. They may be used so for emphasis

Hi Quoc

Personally, I don't like sentences 3 and 6.
I'd say 1,2,4,5 are OK.

Hi,

Your quote:

Quote:
1.She said, "How friendly his brother and his sister are!"
2."How friendly his brother and his sister are!" she said.
3."How friendly his brother," she said, "and his sister are!"
4. She said, "How old are your brother and your sister?"
5. "How old are your brother and your sister?" she said.
6."How old are your brother," she said, "and your sister?"

Two points:

You don't really want to split (3) and (6)

If you ask a question, why not use ask instead of say?

Dear teachers

In my class,my teacher said the sentence:

"My brother," she said, "is a student." is correct.

So, why these 2 sentences:

1."How friendly his brother," she said, "and his sister are!"
2."How old are your brother," she asked, "and your sister?"

are not correct?

Please explain me.

Thanks
