The verb go in a particular sentence

Well, I just want to ask what the verb "go"
means in the sentence below.

"The story GOES that he?s
been living in that small flat twice..."

Does it mean that this is
part of the story from which
we know more?

The story tells us that...I'd also used the story runs...

"The way the story is usually told is that he?s
lived in that small flat twice..."

(The present perfect continuous does not work well with the word twice --- unless you want to say "twice as long as...", for example...)
