Is it because 'examine' is too 'serious' here to describe the situation that it's a wrong choice?

'Examine' is 'look at closely'. 'Test' is try to find the validity/effectiveness of someone/something. A doctor could examine you to find out what's wrong with you. To make sure the doctor will then test various body functions to see how well they are working.
