Expression: 'This is the whole kit and kaboodle'

This is the whole kit and kaboodle. You get all of Microsoft's patches (both critical and non-critical), add-ons (such as Windows Media Player and .NET Framework), various common registry tweaks, and some cool third-party extensions (such as PowerMenu and RunWithArguments).

Dictionaries also give derivatives:

whole kit and boodle
whole kit and caboodles

(Which form do your prefer?)

Anyway, to me and from my previous meetings with the phase (and the derivatives), ‘whole kit and kaboodle’ sounds a bit ironic.

But is it really so?

I use "the whole kit and caboodle" (and I might also spell caboodle with a 'k'). It simply sounds like an informal expression to me and means 'everything'.

I've never used either of your other two versions myself and I don't specifically remember ever having heard anyone use them either.

It sounds a quite creative use of the phrase, typical IT modern useage. I do not think it is supposed to sound ironic.

Every language has dialect you must simply deal with, I think you will find. But that is also one of the beauties of language.
