How do you celebrate Valentine's Day? #1 (permalink) Sat Feb 10, 2007 17:57 pm   How do you celebrate Valentine's Day?

It's 3 days to St. Valentine's day. How do you guys celebrate it?

In Japan the girls are obliged to give the boys they have their eyes on, a special or a home made chocolate and give the other guys around her what they call 'giri choko'(it can be any candy).

And if the guy reciprocates, she will receive something on March 14,the 'white day'. On this day she will know whether the guys have the same feelings for her.

Personally, I don't like the idea of having the girls to initiate it and one guy told me once that many guys don't prefer it either because they don't like saying no to a girl and breaking her heart and that a true genleman will surely make the move first.

Still, not every man is a gentleman and they need to be pushed, don't they?

I was always embarrassed by Valentine's Day, so I only went with girls who were also embarrassed by Valentine's Day or who could tolerate the fact that I don't like romantic rituals.

In American elementary schools, the little kids give Valentine cards to everyone in the class.

In American high schools, every day is Valentine's Day.

Glad to meet you, Nina Zara!

Interesting tradition. However, in my neck of the woods( like in a vast majority of countries) it’s much more typical when a man shows initiative. Smile

I do not celebrate St. Valentine's day. It's a nice tradition but I'm disgusted with lovers kissing in a public place and all the hear-shaped elements everywhere- it's more like commercialization rather than true love that should be proved everyday. back to the topic, in high school there was sth like a Valentine's Day Post Office where u could send a love letter to someone from your school :]

I have a shoebox --well it's in my room in the house where I grew up -- with a bunch of little Valentine's cards. Many a female childhood friend and "girlfriend" gave me those, and they're indispensable as fuel for the fire of nostalgia.

This year the woman and I went to lunch at a local Mexican restaurant, picked up a 12-pack of beer and a DVD, and enjoyed both at home. We ate steak and her great fried potatoes (with onions) for dinner. That woman KNOWS how to chop and fry a potato. Yum.

And as usual -- and given the beer consumed -- I made an off-hand remark that pissed her off, so I spent the night in my room... reading.

Wove, oh wove!!

"The woman", Tom? You remind me of "The one" (President Barack Obama, or as John McCain referred to him, "That one") Laughing

Relax, Michauek. I am sure once you are an entrepreneur yourself, you will see things differently. Wink

I also remember my school had the same tradition. But we get to send flowers and announce it on the school radio. So cool and romantic, for a 15-year-old, I guess.

...just a little caveman-speak, Nina.

As for "that one", in the end we're likely going to find out that only you can make your life better... not Big Brother.
