Hi,
Could you please help me with:

1. Could I understand it as this: he was an unfluctuate, ardent, brown-faced guy? If so, is brown used here to express brown-colored man?

2. Is 'She' a metonymy for the 'theme'?

2. Is 'She' a metonymy for the 'theme'?-- No, 'she' is the woman being written of.
3. Is the 'room' her own room or somewhere else? Why 'slid down'? -- No, the room where they are dancing. 'Slid down' = moved gracefully across [the room].

No problem, Mister Micawber, maybe that's what I really need. I feel it's always more beneficial to me to be focused on the 'raw' picture to make an instinct imagination for it than to run after the story line. Thanks again.
