[I was] or [I were]?

Hi, I have a confused between "was & were"...
I remember sometimes i could say "I was..." or "I were...". Would you please help to point out which cases for the above situations? Smile

Use 'I was' for indicative sentences: 'I was a tapdancer'; 'Was I late yesterday?'
Use 'I were' for subjunctive sentences: 'If I were Ruby Keeler, I would be able to tapdance'.
