Have you ever been to the US?

Have you ever been to the USA or you planning to go there? I've always been fascinated by the idea of going there once because in my opinion it will be a person's single most important learning experience. I mean, if you were born in the US you have a different perspective on your current situation. If you born outside the US and then travel there, you probably see things through completely different eyes. The average US citizen probably takes things for granted that others might never have experienced before.

What do you think is different between your country and the US? For example, here in Germany you very rarely would see a colored person, especially in the part where I'm from. If you do see somebody who looks different, you are likely to think negatively about them. In many parts of Germany there is still is a lot of intolerance and narrow mindedness. Yes, I do expect the average American more open minded when it comes to cultural differences than the average German.

As Jamie mentioned yesterday, a person might speak perfect German but if they were not born here, they wouldn't be regarded as German. Also, people here tend to concentrate more on minimizing risks than on capitalizing on opportunity. Do I sound like complaining about my own country? Far from it. I'm happy to be German and a EU citizen but I do want to learn what it is like living and working in the US. That's why I'm planning to go over next there next year. What about you? I've never been to the US and at this stage I'm not going there..
I'm more interested in Europe, Asia and Africa,so When I have time and money mostly I visit Countries on these 2 Continents...
May be some day I'll visit US too..
