Hi What do you mean by GRE vocab? GRE doesn't really have an official list of words that they test. Kaplan has a 3,500-word list, but GRE can throw in any word that they want.
I think, for me, improving vocabulary was the single most important factor responsible for the high verbal score. I've spend several months doing that
First, if you are comfortable with vocab. it makes Antonym Section a breeze, which has a double benefit: not only do you get to answer these questions correctly, if you know the word you will usually answer them really fast, saving you precious time for the reading comp. and sentence completion questions. Second, Analogy Section also relies very heavily on the vocabulary. If in RC or SC if you don't know the word, you can sometimes guess the meaning based on the context, in Analogy you really need to have at least a vague idea what the word means to answer the question correctly.
I wrote a little post about my GRE experience and books/tools that I used here: GRE Preparation Hopefully, it will be somewhat helpful...
By the way Kaplan GRE Verbal Workbook was really useful with reading comprehension questions Also I used several websites that have test questions, but don't remember the addresses of the top of my head, I'll see if I can find them. |

| I am not sure about TOEFL, never had to take it. I would think that vocabulary tested on TOEFL is different from GRE. I would expect GRE to be tougher, however TOEFL might deal with a wider selection of words and a broader understanding, since it's a test of general English knowledge. |
