Use of "better off"

I think it is better off taking flight instead of bus.

Do you think this sentence is correct? [Particularly, the use of "better off" in this sentence]

I would change this sentence to either:

I think you are better off flying rather than going by bus.

or

I think it is better to fly than to go by bus.

Hi,

The only problem is that 'take flight' means run away. You would have to say: It is better to take a flight instead of a bus trip/journey.
