use of the word: swipe, crinkly

She put the tea-glass on the table. So flies were moving around it (glass). Then I rolled up the newspaper and swiped the flies away. So the newspaper become crinkly.

Are these sentences correct at least as to grammar?

After she put the tea glass on the table, some flies were buzzing around it. I rolled up the newspaper and brushed the flies away, but I crinkled the newspaper.
