TOEFL essay: It has recently been announced that a new restaurant may be built... #1 (permalink) Mon Sep 10, 2007 19:36 pm   TOEFL essay: It has recently been announced that a new restaurant may be built...

It has recently been announced that a new restaurant may be built in your neighborhood. Do you support or oppose this plan? Why? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer

It should be admitted that I love restaurants a lot. A restaurant provides you your family with delicious meals; therefore, helps save time and effort for you to study, work and relax. However, if they plan to open a restaurant near my house, I will undoubtedly be against it.

First of all, a restaurant will bring in a lot of noises. It is a common knowledge that a restaurant often starts working very early to prepare for meals during the day. The employees of the restaurant have to unload cooking materials from very early morning. Clearly, their activities make a lot of noises. Thus, your family will always have uneasy sleeps and it will negatively influence health as well as work and study of the family’s members.

Another reason for the disapproval of this plan is bad behaviors of some customers. Many people going to restaurants often drink a lot. When they get drunken, they may use vulgar words or even fight each other. Do you want your children to hear to bad those words and witness those violent acts? What would you think if one day you saw your sons or your daughters insult their friends or siblings and it was due to rude customers of the restaurant? Clearly, a restaurant can’t create good environment for the development of children.

Last but not least, a restaurant makes the place you live unsanitary. Undoubtedly, a restaurant is also a source of garbage. Dumped food and grease from it produce unpleasant smell around your neighborhood and attract a lot of unwelcome animals such as cockroach, ants and mice. In addition, trash from the restaurant also creates favorable conditions for harmful bacteria to thrive. After all, do you want to live next to a pile of rubbish?

All in all, a restaurant nearby may give you some benefits. Nevertheless, the possible troubles it brings in undeniably overwhelming. Thus, building a restaurant near my house is unacceptable.
