I'd like to ask about the meaning of the phrase "went right out from under all four of them."

The context is as follows:
Several soldiers enter a meeting room and see a stage on which there are three enemy soldiers (Nod soldiers) and the prisoner. Nod soldiers are armed with energy weapon.

Vega's heart went into his throat, but Bowles wasn't firing at the Nod soldiers. He was firing at the stage, which went right out from under all four of them. Green energy streamed into the ceiling.
