Having worked for the communications agencies used by various multinational companies, I can tell you that it's almost certain that the company will not let you use the domain name that includes their trademark. They may not have any interest in Hungary right now, but they never know when they might do business over there. Besides that, if there were anything objectionable posted by you or some later owner of the domain, this could reflect on the image of their company. For example, what if you didn't renew the name someday and some porno company took it over? The company won't want to run the risk.
My suggestion is that you use your imagination and think of another name. |

Hi Thomas,
Many thanks for your question -- I think Jamie has given you very sound advice. Why would you want to use the name of an established company to promote a new community? If if the company gave you permission to register their domain (which is very unlikely because of reasons outlined by Jamie), you there would always be a lot of confusion for both the company's customers as well as your prospective community members. Why do you want to be copy cat? Why not do some brainstorming and come up with your own .com domain? _________________ Test Of English for International Communication TOEIC Preparation & TOEIC Vocabulary |

That's a bit disappointing but sounds quite realistic.

We've been using this name internally for four years. And I haven't ever heard of the company before the registration officer has told me. (It's a three-letter hungarian word that collides with the abbreviation of the company's name. Short words always have a chance of collision.)

Well, that's easy to say ... but I got the point. I'll try to use my imagination.
Thank you both for your help. |
