So I was looking up words to enhance my vocabulary and I stumbled upon the word denigrate.

Quote:
1. To attack the character or reputation of; speak ill of; defame.
2. To disparage; belittle: The critics have denigrated our efforts.

My question is, has that word become politically incorrect or is it acceptable to use?
Personally I find it sounds a bit degrading but a professional opinion would perhaps provide me with more insight on the subject of language appropriateness.

The word itself is fine.

The act of denigration, on the other hand, might be frowned upon by today's weak-skinned media (who help drive the PC establishment) -- unless the denigration is of someone with whom said media does not agree, or someone whom the media simply do not like.
