I don't think that freelance work is so new to Vietnam. Certainly thousands or millions of people were working freelance in Vietnam before the communist takeover. I know this, because I know people who were there. And under the communist government, you have people trading on the black market. They are also freelance workers.
I think that freelance work started at the same time as work itself. Prehistoric people worked freelance, and even a monkey looking for food is working freelance.
You left out what I think is the greatest advantage of freelance work: Since you don't have just one job, you can't lose your entire income if someone fires you. For an employee, getting fired destroys everything, but for a freelance worker, getting fired by a client just leaves you free to find another client. |

In addition to what Jamie has said I'd like to point out that working freelance is similar to being self-employed. A person who is self-employed often thinks about ways to create jobs for other people as well. If you are employed, you don't have much interest in improving the company you working for. If you are self-employed you constantly think about how you can provide better service to more people. So, somebody who works freelance is closer to becoming an entrepreneur than an employee. _________________ Test Of English for International Communication TOEIC Preparation & TOEIC Vocabulary |

Hi Jamie,
Did you know that about.com is owned by The New York Times Company? White P, as for more information on freelancing you might want to contact the Freelancers Union at freelancersunion.org. _________________ Test Of English for International Communication TOEIC Preparation & TOEIC Vocabulary |

You can also look at the National Association for the Self-Employed at http://www.nase.org. |

It certainly is. By the way, About says that they offer "almost 2 million pieces of original content". What exactly is a "piece of content"? _________________ Test Of English for International Communication TOEIC Preparation & TOEIC Vocabulary |

It's a contained piece of something.
That means articles or anything else containing subject matter, even diagrams. |

So, an icon or sign can be a piece of content too? If so, why would they claim to be offering "almost 2 million of original pieces of content"? You can cut any article into paragraphs and call each of them "a piece of content". _________________ Test Of English for International Communication TOEIC Preparation & TOEIC Vocabulary |
