Is 'couple rings' a right English expression?

Hello,

In Korea, it's very common for couples to buy/customize their own rings to celebrate 100-day(for example) anniversary. The rings have same or similar design. People call them 'couple rings'. However, a native speaker called them 'matching rings'. So, my questions are...

1) Is 'couple rings' a right English expression?
2) What's the meaning of 'matching' in 'matching rings'? Looking same? Making a match(mate)?

Hi,

If it is a special expression 'couple rings', then it isn't really possible to say whether it is right or wrong. A 'matching' pair of items isn't necessarily two things that are exactly the same. It could mean that they complement each other and were made (ceramics for example) as a pair in the first place. 'Matching' items are those things that look right together as for example curtains in a room could match the carpet since the colours combine effectively although they are different in type of texture and function.
