What do you make of platitudes/truisms?

Hi,

I don´t know why but a bromide I recently read on this site brought me up that question. Sorry Ralf (no offend towards you) but your saying : "modesty will speed your wings" was the one.

Now, when one is trying to advise you your limits how do you counter, or don´t you do anything at all? I mean, one way to reply might be:

"modesty will speed your wings, ....... but the rest of my body possibly can´t follow"

Hi Ralf,

that wasn´t my wisdom but an attempt to fit a commonly known addition from a German saying (sounds: modesty is an adornment but improvement is easier without it) to your truism. I´d say my appendage shows all the wisdom of my ancient.

I must say I´m proud to belong to a people who´s able to create bromides like:

If the cock crows on the bullocks the weather remains unchanged or varies!!!!!!
