My name is Lara, I am a technical support telephone agent in Portland, Oregon.

I am training to become an English teacher, and I hope to teach English in Vietnam. I would like to talk to people from different countries, to learn more about what kind of people choose to learn English, and how I can best teach English in other countries.

I would also like to learn Vietnamese, but that is not for this forum. Smile

I have many interests- I like to hike, knit, do photography, write, play world of warcraft on the computer, and I have been getting my TEFL certification while working my job as a technical support agent for Adobe.

Hi Lara,

Welcome to our forum. It's great to have you on board. What kind of questions do you have to answer as a technical support agent for Adobe? Do you provide support for all Adobe programs or just a particular one like Photoshop? I think more and more people learn English nowadays and at some point in the near future almost every person might learn as their second language so your decision to start teaching English was excellent for a number reasons.

Talk to you soon,
Torsten

I specifically support Acrobat, Adobe Capture, Adobe Reader, and product installations. It is very challenging, but I enjoy it quite a bit, although often I find myself having to work through communication problems. The person on the other end of the phone says one thing, but I understand another, and vice verse. I think this is very good practice for teaching english, because I have to help people who aren't very good with computers to do things which can be very difficult.

I am very glad to find a forum full of non-native speakers, and I hope to learn a lot watching and posting here!

Hello Lara
Nice to meet you on this forum. I come from Vietnam but I am living and working in Switzerland. Can you speak a little Vietnamese? I'm very delighted to know that you are interested in living and teaching English in Vietnam. Have you ever been there before? I think it would be a very good choise to teach English in Vietnam because the Vietnamese are very keen on learning English. The fact that you work as a technical support agent for Adobe would faciliate your living in Asien, for your computer knowledge would be asked. For learning Vietname you need to practise it as much as possible with the Vietnamese living in the US. I hope to hear about your experiences with learning Vietnamese as a foreign language.

Therefore, if you want to know more about Vietnamese, the following emails are best for you to ask, trungsy@hcm.vnn.vn, trungsyaus@gmail.com, or trungsy_vn@yahoo.com. All of them are my private emails.

Welcome you to Vietnam, a long and thinnest country in South East Asia.

Hello Lara,

I look forward your dream coming true in near future. I am a film student but soon will be granted my bachelor degree of arts in Beijing. And I will go to Philadelphia in August to initial my masters class in media studies. I am exciting about it, however, am worrying about how to build a new life in a foreign country. I am trying to be familiar with transportation, housing, etc. there. I quiet enjoy in my major, the media technology, internet marketing and cognitive psychology. But I have to take a high score of TOFEL, which didn't apply to me, as I opine it, in order to get my TA position on campus. Could I get some advice from you?

Hi Laura,
I'm Huong Le, from Hanoi University of Technology, Hanoi, Vietnam.
I'm now an lecturer of English, too. I'm very glad as you want to visit our country and teach here. We warmly welcome you here.
Last year, our Department received two American teachers like you from "World Mission" - an NGO. So, I think this is one of ways that can help you implement your interesting plan, and I will be a strong supporter for you whenever you are here!
Do u really want to learn Vietnamese. I'm pleased to teach you, too! Vietnamese is much easier than others (as my foreign students said).
Looking forward to your reply.
Have fun!
Tram Huong Le.
