I have one peeve question for you in regards to GMAT prep. Do I need to buy both "GMAT Test Package" and "Englist Test package" or I can take benefit for GMAT prep from ETP only.

hi, i am an english teacher. i teach students between 18 to 21. and i also an english learner. we cannot stop to learn english coz english is still growing, can we? what do you make of "plain speaking"? i think we will use a kind of speaking when its proper to the condition. i'll use plain speaking if we asked to tell the truth, i'll say in figurative speaking if i have to say in figurative speaking. that's the beauty of language..

Hi Alan, thanks for the article! I do not teach English anymore cos right now I'm working for an auto-workshop here in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Back in my teachings years, I used to let my students have fun with English as much as they wanted to. I let them find whatever 'English' they could get hold of, from newspapers cutout, clippings, internet, all sources of English! I let them try out their own versions! Crazy, fun, a bit offtrack but finding interesting stuff about the language proved to be driving more enthusiasm. Yes, they were not doing exceptionally super with their exams, but at least they showed more appreciation and learned the fun way that learning English is not as dull as dishwater!
PS: plain English would simply add 'flavor' to the language; it's just another version of figurative language.

I think that in my language I use figuratively speaking a lot. But in English, I´m a kind of plain, a "Jane Blunt". The main reason is very simple: it is a difficult aspect to cover when a foreign language is used. But I´m as daft as a brush to learn it and use it!

Thank you very much for the interesting articles. I'm a house wife who loves learning English. I teach the pre-school children to year 3 from home(home tuition). Your articles helps me to teach good English. Referring to my prefered communication,I sometimes prefer plain speaking and also metaphorical. I prefer to explain myself in rather plain words to make it possible to be understood by my students. Here in Russia calling a spade a spade is the same as to call things by their names. I am a Law graduate. I like to study a lot. Frankly speaking when I completed my graduation i couldn't continue further due to lack of background. Now i have all those and i like to study much, even to research. I like to study good english as i myself is not satisfied in my english. so i hope you may be happy to guide me.

Language being one for communication it should be simple. An ordinary man should be able to understand on hearing and not after reaching home and thinking of it again.
