have never read a novel by Wilbur Smith, but I have always liked Wilbur Post, who was Mister Ed's father.

I've read two of Smith's books, both of which I found hard to put down:

River God

and its sequel

Warlock

Both books are set in ancient Egypt and are centered on a multi-talented eunuch and his royal masters and mistresses.
