Before anybody jumps in and answers that, be aware that Prof. Perrin made that remark 70 years ago in this article.
Just some slightly relevant context left out of the original question. Perhaps Prof. Perrin's views changed in the decades after he posed the thought. _________________ Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.

Hi
How do we define appropriate by group, learning aim, context, teaching style?
Slang has a place in teaching like any form of language. _________________ Please meet Stewart Tunncilff |

Regarding older teens and adults, I would think they could be invited define those things themselves, couldn't they?
BTW, is the ability to use slang tested in most ESL courses? |

hi Molly
I have tested slang or seen parts of tests that have slang incorporated.
As I said it depends on many things. And teacher created tests should be closer to the aim of the learner(s). _________________ Please meet Stewart Tunncilff |
