Hi~
I am not sure whether i am a winner or not, but i know i've spent a lot of time on learning English. Learning Eniglish is one of my life goals to achive. I'll watch movies, listen to English songs with lyrics and listen to broadcast when i am free stay at home. Maybe, be a winner is a hope of someone's, so do i. Though i am not a winner now, i'll try to improve and do my best on my English.
Hope our dream can come true in the near future.

Hi Torsten! To answer to your question, I can say that I have been studying English for all my life, since I was in the primary school, but I wasn't satisfied of the results that were a very poor thing considering all my efforts. My English level was good enought to get a job as cabin attendant for an airline, but not enoght for me. I've always been a good student and I couldn't accept to fail on this subject that I I've always considered very important as it concerns comunication that I think it's essential to get an open view of the world. So two years ago I decided to attend to a professional English course with individual lessons and at the end I coud notice a considerable improvement of my English skills. Then I met you on internet. And now I have to thank you very very much because thanks to you and your forum my English is getting better every day in an amusing way without big efforts. And it has also produced the non secondary result of incresing my confidence on my possibilities. So, am I a winner? I think I can say yes, even if I know I still have a lot to work to get my goal, but now I have found the way to it and I am conscious I can get it.
Thanks again
Babi

hi everyone...i m not a winner or i better say, i never found myself in such a position bcoz i find it difficult in coping with english language...in my school time i din concentrate in english so much nd with the increasing age nd academic qualifications i realised that english is very much needed for communication...i cnt speak english fluently nd my writting skill is also poor...now at this satge of my life i dnt have enough time to concentrate on it rite from the grammatical rules... nd itz true that english language needs lotz of patience nd regular practice...i just need an efficient guidance for learning this language so one day i could also call myself "a winner"...i m waiting for that particular day...im not as much worried as i was before becoz nw i have this forum for helping me out in english learning process...

A WINNER FOR LIFE #128 (permalink) Sun Aug 09, 2009 13:07 pm   A WINNER FOR LIFE

I'm seeing contradictions in more parte of the posts. Some says that they need to improve, others they don't know how good is their english but at the same time they are expressing understandable. If we make the same efforts we did during this process I think we can succeed in english. If we consider us as winners and always put the eyes on the goal in few time we can achieve the purposes that we desire.

Hi Torsten!

I can say that I'm a winner because even if from the time being I can't speak cleary English like a native speaker, I can read and understand when someone is talking to me. With more practice and less lazyness I could perfom more.
Many thanks for the opportunity you give us ESL to perform that beautifull language which is English!

Hi Torsen and freinds in this forum,

To be honest with you, for morethan 10 years I have been using English everyday especially in fax / email form in correspondence. Unfortunately until now I feel stuck to improve my English capability. What's wrong with me ? since I can say that I'm a fast learner in other fields (beside language?) it proved by many prestiges made in the office career and also other social life. Many times I have been making evaluation in terms of it... one of the results was I had to find out the learning method which can suit with me who may categorize as a 'very logical guy' this is just coming from my formal educational background was from science before ? or what ? it's really made me confuse since many years ago!!!

Now I do need to read books in terms of passing through my career up but I still have find dificulties to understand especially when it's not written in plain English also I would like to be able to read English newspaper well.
Anyhow out of those now I have a better idea on how to learn language... actually it's like We do our life everyday when We feel happy then everything will be good likewise when we'll be sad then everything will change to be bad one... it all depends on us want to be happy or sad all the time Smile so the conclusion is just do it without thinking a lot... practise makes perfect while too much thinking will make it stuck ! so what I'm doing now everyday is looking for articles which may understandable (according to my English level at the time I do) to read and once the level is increasing then step by step I will begin to read books and newspaper. I will stop to find out 'the suitable program in learning English, etc it's time consumming.
Hope you will find the above case useful, especially who have similar case with me and on the contrary I appreciate to have any information to find good articles on the internet... I need it on daily basis.

All the best

Are you a winner?

Dear Mr. Torsten Daerr,

I regret that I do not belong to the small percentage of 'winners'. Frankly, I, as an English learner, am not still satisfied with my English.

However, after reading “English for winners: Are you a winner?” in the English-test.net, I am pleased to carry on learning English since a winner knows that learning English is an ongoing process. Besides, a winner understands that any progress in the learning is success.

Thank you for your “Time for Winners!”--English lesson 30.

Best wishes,
Bhikkhu1991a.

Good evening Torsten, Good evening everybody!

My answer to the question "Are you a winner?" is definitily positive. I am definitily a winner. Do you want to Know the reasons I affirm that in such strong way? I am 50 now, I've been learning English since quite a long ago and teaching it for more than 10
years. Every day, while teaching, I have to be aware of , among other things, the mistakes , the students' and mine, as well. I used to feel so disappointed with me till
I started studying French and Italian. The courses are in English, well, the instructions, I mean. My first language is Portuguese but it is With English that I make my living, learn other languages, watch movies, talk to friends in other countries, talk to my son-in-law , who is American. I would say my life is more in English and I do love that. Mistakes are part of learning not just a language, they are part of life.

And, in case I've made any serious one, please correct me.

Bye! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hello Mitra,

How are you? This is Tom Kane writing from the United States. Torsten is unavailable for a few days, but he asked me to respond back to you. First, I want to say that I think you are doing a great job, both in your written English as well as speaking English.

On to your questions: The word "check" has many uses, but is primarly used as a 'verb.' You can use the word "check" a couple of different ways. Let me give you an example: "Check" can be used to examine something - "Mitra, please check the doors when you leave, I want to make sure they are locked." Another example is to "confirm" something. Example, "We need to check with the other store to see if they have carrots in stock."

Now, the words, "check out" can also have a few meanings. Example, "Mitra, check out that new boat, it looks very expensive". Another example: "Now that we purchased the carrots, lets go to the cashier and check out."

I hope that helps!

Tom
