Hello,
My name is Roberto and I'm from Italy.
I have been studying English at the college... I did work in England for a few months ages ago...I usually speak English at work...but I'm always speaking about the same topics and as soon as the converstion goes to a different matter, I begin to get lost!
I searched on internet and I found this website that looks really interesting and I hope to improve the knowledge of the language and to achive much more words to build my vocabulary and to share different experiences with other students.
I'm from Turin that became quite important for the Winter Olympic Games in 2006 but I work in Florence, so that means I'm more in Florence than in Turin. They are both nice cities but, I'd rather prefer Turin.
I work in the Hotel Industry and I like my job. Sometimes I travel to attend some congresses or events connected to my job and also for tourism (much better...).
Here I am...who's next ?

Ciao Roberto! I studied Italian for a short while... wish I had more time to study it!! Actually I am not sure if I remember any of it... except for some lines from operas.

What are some of the subjects that you find it more difficult to speak on?

Well Italian language is quite difficult too, but not impossible to learn.

It's nice to read that you studied Italian....I know that sometimes it could be difficult due to the different dialects that we have.
Concerning my English, the subjects I have some difficulties with, are all the ones that do not concern the Hotel enviroment....eheheheh. Of course I am able to speak to the guests for all the things connected to reservations, check-in, and all the other things. As soon as the conversation moved to another topic...the problems came out eheheheh. Of course politic is not an easy topic to talk about, overall in Italy ( ) but also other things...
Here I am already speaking about something else, and thank you to you too for this.

Roberto! In this general term, "politics", we use the plural form. "Politics" is not an easy topic to talk about .... It's true!
So do you go to the opera a lot? or is that just an Italian stereotype?

Thank you very much to correct me...you see I need some help.
Talking about opera, I do not have a comparison from Italian to foreign. Actually, I know that a lot of Americans when they come to Italy for tourism they usually go to the theathre to see Opera....Personally I went twice that means not so much. But I had the occasion to go with a friend of mine that is keen on Opera and he goes regurarly in all the Italian theatres. The first time I went at the teatro Regio in Turin and I saw "La norma": I did like it very much and I have to admit that something inside my heart trembled, it's really nice to listen to somebody sing at the Opera. The second time I made a present to my parents and we went in Bologna to see "Lo schiannoci" that is quite usual at Christmas time. My intention is to contunuing going to the theatre to see Opera. I have to arrange a Opera weekend for my parents and some relative in Milan at La Scala theatre that is definetely one of the most important theatre in Italy. Have you ever heard of that? Which plays do you like most? have a nice time.

I'm also new here , and - like Rachel - have taken some Italian lessons , since we have to choose a second European language to study besides English , which is our major .
The teacher of ours wasn't somebody who (teaches) Italian ! He was a doctor who graduated in Italy , and the university of Aleppo (where I study )hired him because he was the best choice for a minor course ! you can imagine , it was very bad .

Wow I though that not a lot of people studied Italian, but I am realizing that it's not true....
For us as well, English is definetely the most studied foreign language, so we at least are able to speka e few words...
I am sorry that you didn't have a good teacher, so, probably you didn't like the language very much. For me it's very important the teacher too, if he's/she's good I am more interested to study.

I do LIKE Italian , although it's very difficult comparing to English , but I find it so easy when I imagine an Italian guy who tries to learn Arabic ! Our language is the most difficult one EVER !!

I have a problem concerning my teachers , I don't think I was a lucky student .. most of them were terrible , that's why I'm working to improve my language by myself .. it makes me unconfident all the time , I'm trying to get over it .

eheheheheh, you are right! I can only imagine that it's much more easier to study Italian than Arabic!
Talking about teachers, maybe I was more like than you but I think that this site is very interesting and I can keep myself updated or to learn something i am not sure about...

I have studied Italian in high school as a second language beside English for like 2 years or more then I had a private course in it, I was pretty good in it and I really liked the language and the culture..
I was able to write, read and speak in a good way but unfortunately when I left school and went to the university in a scientific major I had to stop studying it and continue in English..
As a result I almost remember nothing about the whole language, just few words and phrases..
but at the same time, I'm sure I'd be able to remember what I've learned before if I started to revise again or practice it ...

your English sounds good, all you need is to practice more and more just like all we do ..

I am again surprised abou how many people study Italian....wow.
And for you too it should had been difficult. Definetely English is much more important and more spoken, this means that you chose a second languaga that is not so common and this means 100 points for you!
You are right, the problem is to speka as much as possible the language you are studying, but I am sure that In Egypt you will see a lot of Italians (we travel everywhere...). I came three times and I did appreciate Sharm el Sheik...Unfortunately I have never been to El Cairo and Luxor...but I hope to.
