Laura: The college students put on some great theatrical productions in the college auditorium. Are you going to the performance this weekend?Tom: I think we're going on Saturday night. How about you?Laura: I bought tickets for Friday.Where will the performance take place? in a college auditorium.
Dear Alan, Here why are not using what about you? Why we are using how about you? Can we use? What about you?

. Here, both phrases are OK. 'What about you' seems to me to be slightly more insistent than 'How about you?' . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Hi Khan,
'What about you?' is more what we'd call 'up front' where you are being more direct in your question. 'How about you' is a more friendly and sympathetic way of asking.
