TOEFL vs. TOEIC #1 (permalink) Thu Jun 02, 2005 11:54 am   TOEFL vs. TOEIC

Hello,

I need to take an English exam for admission to a French business school, they accept both the TOELF and the TOEIC exam.
To be honest, I haven't heard of the TOEIC test before, but after having made some online tests, it seems to me easier than the TOEFL. But what is the difference between the two tests? Is the TOEIC really easier? Another question: in the listening comprehension part do they speak British English or American one?
Thank you in advance for your answers.

Greetings,

Anna

Hi Anna,

Both the TOEFL and the TOEIC measure your English language proficiency the difference between the two is not their level of difficulty but their purpose. While the TOEFL covers academic issues, the TOEIC includes business related topics. Both tests use US American speakers in their listening comprehension sections. Seeing this thread has moved to the top of the TOEIC forum, I would like to add the current situation ...

The TOEIC test nowadays includes British, American, Canadian and Australian English voices in the listening comprehension section.

.
Yes. TOEIC is designed for businessmen and potential businessmen. TOEFL is designed for college-entrance testing. TOEFL is more difficult, particularly in vocabulary, than TOEIC.
