Adnan,
I grew up in northern Wisconsin, north of parts of Canada... including Toronto.
If you are not accustomed to cold -- very cold, -30 Celsius and lower -- weather, the first things you need to buy are:
1) Warm/thick winter coat 2) Gloves or mittens 3) Stocking cap
Look, I grew up in a bitterly cold winter environment -- in Minocqua, WI the lakes freeze in December and thaw in late April and early May -- and while I lived there, I didn't realize how cold it was.
But I have lived in Tennessee for nine years and have become acclimated to its weather, which is much warmer in the summer months and during the winter.
So whenever I take a winter trip to Minocqua, I nearly freeze to death. And the funny thing is, it doesn't even have to be a particularly cold day (for Wisconsinites) for me to feel cold. It was 5F one night... and I just wanted to get inside.
It is frequently below 0F (what, -30 Celsius?) up there. During my senior year in high school, the temperature got down to -48F.
To illustrate the coldness of the northern half of North America -- which includes both Wisconsin and Canada -- here is an up-to-date figure:
- The low temperature tonight in Minocqua, WI will be 32F -- 0 Celsius.
And it's the middle of May.
Places like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver are warmer than northern Wisconsin... but you'll need coat/hat/gloves even in those places.
And if you're moving to Canada's interior -- Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon Territory, northern Quebec or northern Ontario (etc.) -- your health will be at serious risk if you do not dress very warmly for half of the year... November through at least April.
Best of luck to you! _________________ Billie Jean is not my lover. Hee. |
