Margherita is from Italy so I think she knows how to use this word  |

"Ciao" is used both when arriving and departing. |

I found an article about it on the internet so now I know how to use that word. The article was in Swedish and some Italian words. Thats why it's no use to give you the link to that page,
I read in that article that ciao shall to be used to eldery people if you don't know them very well.

| It's not used with elderly people you don't know well. Just the opposite. It's informal and is used as a familiar greeting. |
