Hi,

this means she was walking down the hall not going in any particular direction and she was completely occupied with her own thoughts.

Can you explain the meaning of "lost in thought" in this sentence and what do they have position grammatically?

Thank you

Hi,

'Lost in thought' suggests that someone is preoccupied and is concentrating so hard on what they are thinking that they don't realise what they are doing. Another word that describes this state of mind is 'absent-minded'. In your sentence: She was wandering down the hall you could put your expression 'lost in thought' next. The expression itself is a participial phrase used as an adverb as it describes the manner in which 'she wandered.'
