"sense" and "meaning"

What are the differences between the 1st and the 2nd, and between the

3rd and 4th sentenses. I'm interested in words "meaning" and "sense".

1) Can this word be used in this MEANING?
2) Can this word be used in this SENSE?

3) In what MEANING is this word used here?
4) In what SENSE is this word used here?

Please, mind that 1-4 are not my questions but merely examples of

usage of words "meaning" and "sense". So there can be two answers.

a) there is a difference (than, please, explain what the difference

is)
b) they are complete sinonyms.

Hi Lance,

The meaning of a word is an explanation of the word. The sense of somethingi is what is underneath the explanation. For example you could understand the meaning of a word in a foreign language. You could understand the sense of a paragraph/sentence in a foreign language without knowing the exact meaning of each word.
