what does " to be green on something means"

I think it means that its: not to know well the thing in question .

I just would like you to confirm, if Im right .and , bye the way, give me the origin of the expression.

Yes - it means inexperienced, you're right. It comes from the idea of plants when they first start to grow appearing as green shoots in the ground.
